About This Event
St Cystennin has a long history and it is suggested that there was a church on this site from 338AD, dedicated to one of the Roman Emperors, Constantine. However, we know that there was a chapel on the site from around 1180 when monks came to Conwy; the first real church was built in the great era of church building in North Wales around 1480. Five of the stained glass window panels dating from this period have been restored and are on view in the church. The present church dates from 1843 when it was rebuilt on the same site. The church has been updated with a disabled access and a toilet installed. The church is located in a rural environment in the Mochdre Valley. For Open Doors, all registers dating back to the early 1600s will be on view, together with the five medieval stained glass panels dating from around 1500. There will be also a display of the local area's history with information on Llangystennin and the surrounding areas.
